Walt Disney Studios has announced releases dates for two upcoming popular franchise films.
First, "Star Wars: Episode VIII" has been given a new release date of December 15, 2017. It was originally slated for a May 26, 2017 release. The film is currently in pre-production, with principal photography beginning in London next month. The film will be written and directed by Rian Johnson with Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman producing and J.J. Abrams, Tom Karnowski, and Jason McGatlin will executive producing.
Next, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" will be released on May 26, 2017, which is actually an earlier premier date than its original July 7, 2017 release. Johnny Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow with Geoffrey Rush back on board as Barbossa, Orlando Bloom resurfacing as Will Turner, and a new adversary, Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem. The film will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. The film is currently in post-production.
