Paramount Pictures has released five 10-second teasers for their upcoming film, Ghost in the Shell. The film is a live-action adaptation of the classic manga series.
There has been a bit of controversy swirling around the film because of the casting. Scarlett Johansson has been cast in the lead, which given the Japanese setting, is one more instance of what people call "whitewashing" in Hollywood. She joins a cast that includes Pilou Asbæk, Michael Pitt, Takeshi Kitano, Chin Han, Lasarus Ratuere, Juliette Binoche, Rila Fukushima, Kaori Momoi, Danusia Samal, Yutaka Izumihara, Tuwanda Manyimo, and Pete Teo.
The Rupert Sanders directed film follows the script written by Jonathan Herman and Jamie Moss, and is about a field commander cyborg who is involved in counter-terrorism in near-future Japan.
