The third season of "Ballers", the HBO series starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, will be filming in the state of California, not Florida, like previously thought. The move from Florida is due to a large tax break that the state of California has offered to a number of recipients.
California Film Commission executive director Amy Lemisch said, "Approximately $75 million in tax credits was available for the November TV application period to accommodate additional episodes or seasons for recurring series already in the program. Once the film commission receives pick-up orders for recurring series, credits will be allocated. Any balance of credits not assigned will roll to the February TV application period - the final TV round for the fiscal year."
The incentive (which topped out at $100 million) began in 2009 and Gov. Jerry Brown expanded upon it in 2014, increasing it to $330 million-a-year.
