Netflix has announced that it will release its upcoming film "The Irishman" in select theatres on November 1 before its November 27 release via their streaming service. The film will be shown in most major US cities.
Netflix executives were unable to reach an agreement with AMC, Cineplex, Regal, or Cinemark theatres as far as distribution because the 27-day lead time before the streaming release is not acceptable to those chains. A 3-month moratorium is what is generally accepted to allow theatres enough time to profit from films.
Netflix's 2018 film "Roma" was also released in theatres but with only a 21-day waiting period before being streamed.
Martin Scorses's "The Irishman" stars Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, and Harvey Keitel, who tell the story of events leading up to the death of Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa. Also starring in the film are Ray Romano, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, Stephen Graham, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Jack Huston, Kathrine Narducci, Jesse Plemons, Domenick Lombardozzi, Paul Herman, Gary Basaraba and Marin Ireland.
