Mattel to Release Live-Action Barney Film
Mattel has announced that they will be developing a live-action Barney film alongside Daniel Kaluuya's production company 59% and Valparaiso Pictures.

Barney is the famous purple dinosaur who, beginning in the 1990s, starred in 14 seasons of a children's television show.

"Working with Daniel Kaluuya will enable us to take a completely new approach to ‘Barney' that will surprise audiences and subvert expectations. The project will speak to the nostalgia of the brand in a way that will resonate with adults while entertaining today's kids", said Robbie Brenner, Mattel Films.

Daniel Kaluuya also commented on the news saying, "Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood. We're excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of ‘I love you, you love me' can stand the test of time."

Mattel is also lining up projects for other popular brands including Barbie, Hot Wheels, Masters of the Universe, American Girl and View Master.
