It has been announced that "Diana: A New Musical", based on the life of Princess Diana, will be premiering on Netflix next year before its Broadway debut on May 25, 2021. Producers Grove Entertainment (Beth Williams), Frank Marshall, and The Araca Group made the announcement.
The musical will star Jeanna de Waal as Diana and will be directed by Christopher Ashley.
"We speak for the entire company when we say that we couldn't be more excited to finally be able to share our show with theater lovers everywhere. Though there is no substitute for the live theater, we are honored to be a part of the quality entertainment that Netflix provides its subscribers worldwide," said the producers in a statement.
The move to premier the musical on Netflix will be the first time that a Broadway show will have been premiered on television before opening night.
Actor's Equity Association's Executive Director Mary McColl said in a statement, "Today, we can announce that we have approved a safety plan for Diana. Now comes the hard part - taking a safety plan from the page and putting it into practice. The work to provide the safest workplace possible in this environment will require everyone to work together, from the employer to every employee."
No Netflix release date has been announced yet.
