Christopher Plummer, the beloved star of "The Sound of Music", has died. He was 91. He died peacefully in his Connecticut home earlier today with his wife of 53 years, Elaine Taylor, by his side.
Plummer's career spanned over an impressive 70 years and starred in over 100 films. "The Sound of Music" was an iconic role for the actor, who starred alongside Julie Andrews in what is now an all-time, mega-hit, classic film. He grew up in Montreal, and began his career in radio and on the stage, performing both in English and French. He then moved on to Broadway, and eventually television and film. Plummer won an Oscar for 2010's "Beginners" and two Tony Awards, one for the musical "Cyrano" and one for "Barrymore". He was also the (first) recipient of the Jason Robards Award, the Edwin Booth Award, and the Sir John Gielgud Quill Award. He also held an honorary knighthood, invested by Elizabeth II to the Companion of the Order of Canada.

Plummer's longtime friend and manager of 42 years, Lou Pitt, said, "Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self-deprecating humor and the music of words. He was a National Treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us."
Plummer is also survived by his daughter, Amanda.
