Olivia Newton-John, known best for her iconic role as Sandy in 1978's pop culture phenomenon "Grease", has died. She was 73.
The actress fought a long battle with breast cancer, one that has lasted over 30 years. She died at her home in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends.
"Dame Olivia Newton-John passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time. Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer," said her husband John Easterling via a statement on Instagram.
The actress was also an accomplished singer, winning four Grammy Awards and selling over 100 million albums. Her most popular song was "Physical".
The actress said in an interview a few years back, "I've had many lives in music. I've had country when I started, then I crossed over into pop. I had 'Xanadu' and 'Grease,' many songs in between. I feel very grateful. I have such a large repertoire to choose from."
Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona, and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall.
