Back in 2004 a new feature film director, James Wan (The Conjuring Universe) debuted a horror film called Saw. The premise of the movie had a serial killer trapping victims whose only means of escape was to do bodily harm to themselves. While not a critical success, the film made $104 million worldwide leading to several sequels.
