Sequel to Cult Classic 'It Follows' Confirmed: 'They Follow' in the Making

It's been announced that a sequel to "It Follows" will be released titled "They Follow". Production is slated to begin in 2024, with filmmaker David Robert Mitchell returning to direct and write, and Maika Monroe reprising her role as Jay Height.

Neon is set to collaborate on the film production with Good Fear Content. Mitchell, alongside Jake Weiner and Chris Bender of Good Fear Content, will serve as a producer, along with the original producers of It Follows, namely David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green, and Laura Smith.

The CEO of Neon previously oversaw the release of "It Follows" at Radius, which became a cult theatrical hit grossing $15 million in the United States in 2014.

Mitchell entered the film industry with his 2010 coming-of-age drama, "The Myth of the American Sleepover", which made its world premiere at South by Southwest. His second film, "It Follows", received a Critics Choice Awards nomination for Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie. In 2018, he wrote, produced, and directed the black comedy/mystery film Under the Silver Lake, starring Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough.

Mitchell is currently in the development phase of an untitled project with Warner Bros. and Bad Robot, featuring Anne Hathaway.

Monroe recently completed filming Oz Perkins' "Longlegs", co-starring with Nicolas Cage, which Neon plans to release in 2024. After her breakthrough role in "It Follows", Monroe also starred in Neil Jordan's Greta for Focus Features, as well as "Hot Summer Nights", "Villains", "Honey Boy", and "Watcher".

In August, Neon expanded its global presence with an international sales division, which is handling foreign sales for Ava DuVernay's Origin. The film is set to open on December 8, following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and North American premiere in Toronto.

Neon has several exciting projects in the pipeline, including Pamela Adlon's directorial debut "Babes", featuring Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau, and Michael Mann's Ferrari, scheduled for a Christmas Day release. Other upcoming films include Alice Rohrwacher's "La Chimera", Wim Wenders' "Perfect Days" (the Japanese selection for Best International Film at the Academy Awards, starring Cannes Best Actor Award winner Koji Yakusho), and "Robot Dreams" from Pablo Berger. Their Palme d'Or winner "Anatomy of a Fall", directed by Justine Triet, is currently in theaters.

The deal with Neon was brokered by CAA Media Finance. Mitchell is represented by CAA, Good Fear Content, and David Fox at Myman Greenspan Fineman, while Monroe is represented by WME and Entertainment360. The producers are represented by Hayden Godlblatt of FKKS, Allison Binder of GGSSC, and Michael Weiss of Concentric Law.
