The entertainment world mourns the the loss of a true icon as Carl Weathers, renowned for his roles in blockbuster films such as the "Rocky" series and "Predator", has passed away at the age of 76. A multifaceted talent who seamlessly transitioned between film, television, and sports, Weathers left an indelible mark on the industry and touched the hearts of audiences worldwide.

He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend," his family said in a statement.
Born on January 14, 1948, in New Orleans, Carl Weathers embarked on a remarkable 50-year career in the entertainment industry. His cinematic journey included over 75 films and TV shows. Weathers achieved widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Apollo Creed, the charismatic heavyweight champion of the world, in the first four "Rocky films". The character, who granted an opportunity to the underdog Philly boxer Rocky Balboa (played by Sylvester Stallone), became an integral part of the franchise's success, as well as marking a pivotal moment in Weathers' career.
Tragically, Apollo Creed met his end in "Rocky IV" (1984), facing off against the formidable Russian heavyweight Ivan Drago, portrayed by Dolph Lundgren. Weathers' portrayal of the beloved character left an indelible mark on the franchise and remains etched in the memories of fans.
Weathers continued to showcase his acting prowess in a variety of roles beyond the boxing ring. In 1988, he headlined the action film "Action Jackson," a role that showcased his versatility in the action genre. The previous year, he shared the screen with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the sci-fi classic "Predator," further establishing his presence in the action film landscape.
In recent years, a new generation of fans discovered Carl Weathers through his appearances in Disney's Star Wars series, "The Mandalorian." Over three seasons, Weathers brought his charisma to the character Greef Karga. He also lent his voice to the character Combat Carl in the Oscar-winning film "Toy Story 4" and its 2013 TV special, "Toy Story of Terror".
