Viola Davis, the acclaimed actress, philanthropist, and EGOT recipient, will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2025 Golden Globes. This distinguished accolade recognizes exceptional contributions to the entertainment industry, placing Davis in the company of iconic past honorees such as Sidney Poitier, Barbra Streisand, and Oprah Winfrey. Davis first garnered Golden Globe acclaim with her supporting actress win for Fences (2016), a role that also earned her an Oscar and a SAG Award. As of 2024, she remains the most-nominated Black woman in Oscar history.
"Viola Davis is a luminary whose profound talent has continuously shifted the lens through which we see and understand film. Presenting her with the 2025 Cecil B. DeMille Award is not only an honor but a reflection of our admiration for her relentless dedication to her craft and her monumental impact on the industry. Viola's courage in portraying complex, powerful characters has broken barriers and paved new paths, making her an emblem of excellence and an ideal recipient of this prestigious award," said Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes.
Beyond her acting accolades, Davis's influence extends through her activism, philanthropy, and best-selling authorship, cementing her as one of Time 100's most influential people in 2017.
Davis will be celebrated during the Golden Globes' first-ever gala dinner on January 3, 2025, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, with recognition during the 82nd Golden Globes broadcast on January 5, 2025. The ceremony will also feature the announcement of the 2025 Carol Burnett Award honoree for television achievements. With her work at JuVee Productions, the company she co-founded in 2012 to amplify underrepresented voices, Davis continues to champion impactful storytelling.
Golden Globe nominations will be unveiled on December 9, 2024.
