The nominees for the 78th Tony Awards were announced today, with "Death Becomes Her", "Maybe Happy Ending", and "Buena Vista Social Club" leading the pack at 10 nominations each. These musicals will compete for Best Musical alongside "Dead Outlaw" and "Operation Mincemeat".

In the Best Revival category, contenders include "Floyd Collins", "Gypsy", "Pirates! The Penzance Musical", and "Sunset Blvd".

Leading the play nominations with seven each are "John Proctor Is the Villain", a feminist spin on "The Crucible", and Jez Butterworth's grief-stricken family drama "The Hills of California". They'll face "Purpose", "Oh, Mary!", and "English" in the Best Play race.

Audra McDonald made history with her 11th nomination for "Gypsy", becoming the most-nominated performer in Tony history. She'll compete against Nicole Scherzinger (Sunset Blvd.), Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard (Death Becomes Her), and Jasmine Amy Rogers (Boop!).

Hollywood names also made a splash: George Clooney earned a nod for "Good Night, and Good Luck", and Sarah Snook was recognized for her multi-role performance in "The Picture of Dorian Gray". Other nominees include Sadie Sink (John Proctor Is the Villain) and Bob Odenkirk (Glengarry Glen Ross). Notably snubbed were Kieran Culkin, Denzel Washington, Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., and Jim Parsons.

Announced by Tony winners Sarah Paulson and Wendell Pierce, this season saw 42 eligible productions-21 plays and 21 musicals-marking a busy year on Broadway. The ceremony will be held June 8 at Radio City Music Hall, hosted by Cynthia Erivo, and broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.
