As The Fantastic Four: First Steps blasts onto screens this July 25, the iconic General Mills cereal mascots are channeling their own superhero hero strengths. Hitting stores now, the specially designed cereal boxes and collector's items will have people swapping cereal for that bowl of popcorn.
Recently, General Mills has been featuring various Marvel characters on its cereal boxes. From the recent Wheaties box featuring The Thunderbolts to the 2023 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Collector boxes, the iconic food brand appreciates that fans want a taste of their favorite movies in their own home.
The recent Fantastic Four collaboration puts the iconic characters front and center on the various cereal brands' boxes. While the flavors are still the tastes that people have grown to love over the years, it is the packaging that these boxes a must buy for the Marvel fan.
As Dayna Needham, Manager, Brand Experience, Portfolio and Division Events at General Mills, said, "This collaboration unites two iconic universes together, our beloved cereal mascots like Buzz the Bee and Lucky the Leprechaun, and Marvel's First Family. The specially designed cereal boxes are reimagined with a nostalgic '60s design flair to celebrate wonder, nostalgia, and fandom over the breakfast table."
To kick off the partnership, Honey Nut Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, and Reese's Puff cereal will feature various characters on the box. As the images show, the characters have a retro vibe. Although the younger generation might be a little less familiar with these throwback looks, true Marvel fans will appreciate the nod to the classics.
For true collectors, Walmart will offer an exclusive limited-edition Galactus Cocoa Puffs box. These Walmart exclusive offerings have proved quite successful for all involved. As soon as this cereal hits the shelf, it will be gone in a flash.
Lastly, there is one offering that will become the most coveted cereal of the bunch. Available on Tuesday, July 22, Lucky Charms will offer a limited-edition box with a Johnny Storm collectible. The retro box will be sold only on Walmart.com, and supplies will be limited.
Like many pop culture collaborations, some people might want to keep the box in pristine condition. At the same time, leaving a box of cereal unopened seems wasteful. The best solution is to take the cereal out and put an empty box on the shelf.
Will there be more General Mills and Marvel collaborations in the future? Given the past and current success of the specialty offerings, it seems highly plausible that it will continue. Although a serving of Lucky Charms is magically delicious, it does not mean that the Marvel fan will assume those superhero powers like their favorite characters on screen
