Glen Powell’s Smash Kitchen reveals ketchup’s perfect match
From his signature smile to his charismatic personality, Glen Powell captivates audiences on the big screen, including starring in Twisters . While many people would love to share a meal with the star, everyone can serve his Smash Kitchen condiments at their table. On National Ketchup Day, the new pantry staples brand dishes on the perfect ketchup match.
Earlier this year, Smash Kitchen entered the market. Co-founded by Glen Powell, the pantry staples company is built on a simple directive: Quality ingredients make memorable meals.
The concept might be straightforward, but that choice matters. As any chef appreciates, great ingredients are necessary to make flavors pop.
Smash Kitchen has eight condiments in its line. They are: Classic Tomato Ketchup, Yellow Mustard, Real Mayonnaise, American Style BBQ Sauce, Hot Honey Ketchup, Dijon Mustard, Spicy Mayonnaise, and Hot Honey BBQ Sauce.
While these classic foods can infuse flavor into a variety of recipes, ketchup is the most used condiment on the list. At the same time, it can be controversial. For example, ketchup on a hot dog will get a strong side-eye from a Chicago native. That choice could get a person a cold plunge into Lake Michigan.
At the same time, lots of people cannot live without ketchup. Whether it is a topping for a burger, a squirt in a meatloaf recipe, or just a dip for French fries, the condiment is the centerpiece on the table.
For National Ketchup Day, Smash Kitchen surveyed 2,000 people to understand their ketchup and fries habits better. As most people appreciate, ketchup and French fries are like Thelma and Louise, Batman and Robin, or even Superman and Krypto. Both are ok on their own, but they are so much better when paired together.
From dipping versus drizzle and traditional versus spicy, the opinions were flowing. The biggest takeaway from the findings was that ketchup beats mustard, mayo, or even barbecue sauce as the sauce for fries. Whether that preference is convenience, tradition, or flavor is unclear. But if fries are on the plate, ketchup better be within reach.
Additionally, the survey found that people would rather dunk their fries in ketchup than drizzle the sauce over the pile of potatoes. Almost ¾ of the respondents were dippers. In some ways, dipping allows perfect customization in every bite.
Although the reasoning behind the dipping preference was unclear, there could be a lot of factors for that preference. It could be wanting to control the amount per fry or just wanting to play with food. If ketchup is a potato’s best friend, the drizzle method could leave a naked fry. As Matt Damon showed in The Martian, bland potatoes can be a little hard to swallow.
While the ketchup survey captured preferences at the moment, there was a response that predicted a ketchup trend. Spicy, or swicy, is ready to take over the plate. Since ketchup has an inherent sweetness, spicy ketchup brings the heat without obliterating the palate. That extra tingle on the tongue and flush of the cheeks keeps any meal from being boring. Luckily, Smash Kitchen Hot Honey Ketchup is in its line.
What is the biggest takeaway from Smash Kitchen’s Ketchup Survey? Ketchup is the MVP of condiments. Although the phrase might not be as simplistic as Twister’s “if you feel it, chase it” mantra, Smash Kitchen’s Classic Tomato Ketchup brings all the feels to food pairings.
