Hell’s Kitchen Season 24’s Theme Ventures into Uncharted Territory

FOX and Gordon Ramsay continue to captivate food fans with Hell’s Kitchen. Season 24 is set to premiere on . While the red and blue kitchens will continue to be separated into men versus women, a new wrinkle hits this competition. Do certain states produce better chefs?

Hell’s Kitchen Season 24 is themed “Battle of The States.” While previous seasons’ winners have come from all different areas, this theme seems to be plucked from a previous MasterChef season. While that competition was a regional battle, it will be interesting to see if culinary-centric states, like California and New York, will earn top billing on Hell’s Kitchen. Or, could a rising star from Ohio, Arizona or even Idaho earn the crown?

According to FOX, this season begins with 50 chefs. That scenario has never been tackled on Hell’s Kitchen. It is unclear if the chefs will have to present a signature dish. A level playing field would be for each chef to prepare the exact same dish. In that case, it would give better insight into each chef’s specific cooking abilities.

Given the food diversity across the 50 states, it will be interesting to see if the chefs have to showcase a signature ingredient from their state. Just because a chef is from a state doesn’t mean that she cooks local food. For example, Louisiana chefs do not always make Cajun food, and Texans do not always make barbecue.

Since it would be impossible to have such a large number of chefs in the Hell’s Kitchen restaurant, the first episode narrows the competition from 50 to 18 chefs. It is unclear how many more semi-finalists will be eliminated prior to earning the first set of chefs’ jackets.

The idea that every chef will be from a different location is a curious social experiment. Anyone who has watched previous seasons appreciates that team dynamics can impact a dinner service. Time and again, bickering personalities can cause a breakdown in the brigade.

Could state pride come with inflated egos? Only time will tell if this social experiment will forever change the popular Gordon Ramsay culinary competition. Maybe for season 25, Hell’s Kitchen will focus on international chefs. Would an American chef dominate in that competition?

Season 24 was filmed at Foxwoods Casino. Similar to previous Hell’s Kitchen seasons, back-to-back seasons are filmed during a shoot. Given this scenario, it seems likely that Season 23 winner, Chef Kyle Timpson, could make an appearance. It is always good to have previous competitors share their insights with the new group.

Hell’s Kitchen Season 24 premieres on at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Episodes can be streamed the next day on Hulu.
