The magic is back! Disney has officially announced that Season 2 of "Wizards Beyond Waverly Place", the follow-up to the Emmy® Award-winning "Wizards of Waverly Place", will premiere Friday, September 12, with a two-episode event on Disney Channel at 7:00 p.m. EDT/PDT. Fans who prefer streaming won't have to wait long - the full season drops October 8 on Disney+ in the U.S. and select international markets.
This season promises to blend fresh magical adventures with heartfelt family drama - and a generous dash of nostalgia. Executive producer Selena Gomez, who made the original series iconic as the witty and rebellious Alex Russo, returns in a guest starring role. She joins an impressive lineup of guest stars including "ZOMBIES 4: Dawn of the Vampires" breakout Freya Skye as Piper, "What We Do in the Shadows" fan favorite Harvey Guillén as Gossip Stone, "Criminal Minds" alum Kirsten Vangsness as Bigelow McFigglehorn, Recker Eans as Quentin, Tobias Jelinek as Lord Morsus, Patrick Bristow as Wiz M.D., and Eleanor Sweeney as Bella Bianchi.
Familiar faces from the original "Wizards of Waverly Place" will be making special appearances, including Bill Chott reprising his role as the beloved Principal Mr. Laritate and Sean Whalen as Mantooth. Amanda Tepe, known for playing multiple quirky characters in the original series, also returns for a Christmas-themed episode.
Season 2 will continue the story of Billie, played by Janice LeAnn Brown, who is now settling into life with the Russo family, but discovers that being a wizard comes with more challenges than she ever imagined. Complicating things further, her cousins Roman and Milo, played by Alkaio Thiele and Max Matenko, have now developed magical powers of their own. That leaves Justin Russo, portrayed once again by David Henrie, with a full plate as he trains all three for the ultimate magical showdown: the Family Wizard Competition.
But while the magic lessons intensify inside the house, danger brews outside. A new, mysterious threat looms over the Russos, one that could unravel the family and their legacy forever.
Returning cast members also include Taylor Cora as Winter and Mimi Gianopulos as Giada Russo, rounding out a multi-generational wizarding household caught between tradition and transformation.
"Wizards Beyond Waverly Place" continues to be a collaborative effort between original and new creative forces. The series is produced by Disney Branded Television, with Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serving as writers and executive producers. Original series creator Todd Greenwald is not attached this season, but Gomez and Henrie return in both on- and off-screen roles, joined by executive producers Gary Marsh and Jonas Agin.
The first season of "Wizards Beyond Waverly Place" is currently streaming in full on Disney+, offering fans the perfect chance to catch up before diving into Season 2.
