Fans of Jim Henson's magical worlds are in for a treat this fall. Fathom Entertainment, Universal Pictures, and The Jim Henson Company are teaming up to bring "The Dark Crystal" back to the big screen for a limited two-day engagement on October 12 and 13.

This special re-release is part of The Jim Henson Company's 70th anniversary celebration and includes a brand-new introduction from Brian Henson, the company's Chairman and son of the legendary creator himself.

"The magic of Jim Henson and The Dark Crystal has long been a hit with Fathom Entertainment audiences. We are honored to bring back this cinematic fantasy masterpiece and honor The Jim Henson Company in its 70th year of making fantasy magic for audiences of all ages," said Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Entertainment.

First released in 1982, "The Dark Crystal" is unlike anything else in fantasy cinema. Billed with the haunting tagline "Another world, another time… in the age of Wonder," the film transported audiences into the world of Thra, populated entirely by puppets and creatures dreamed up by Jim Henson and his creative team.

The story follows Jen, a young Gelfling raised by the Mystics, who sets out on a quest to heal the broken Dark Crystal. If he succeeds, he can restore balance to the universe. If he fails, the evil Skeksis will rule forever.

The film was a groundbreaking achievement in puppetry and animatronics, creating a living, breathing fantasy world without a single human actor on screen. Over the years, it's built a loyal fanbase and influenced countless creators. More recently, Netflix's "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance" brought the world of Thra to a whole new generation of fans.

This theatrical return also celebrates an incredible milestone - 70 years of The Jim Henson Company. Since its founding in 1955, the company has been behind some of the most beloved creations in entertainment history, from Fraggle Rock and Labyrinth to modern projects like Earth to Ned and Guillermo del Toro's Oscar-winning Pinocchio.

The company's mix of puppetry, storytelling, and imagination has shaped generations of childhoods-and The Dark Crystal remains one of its boldest, most visionary works.

Tickets for "The Dark Crystal" are available now through Fathom Entertainment and participating theater box offices. Theater locations may vary, so fans should check local listings to find a screening nearby.

Whether you're reliving the adventure or discovering it for the first time, this is a rare chance to see Jim Henson's fantasy epic the way it was meant to be seen: on the big screen.
