DC Studios is wasting no time in building momentum for the next cinematic chapter centered on the Man of Steel. Following the record-breaking success of James Gunn's Superman, the studio officially announced that "Superman: Man of Tomorrow" will hit theaters on July 9, 2027, marking the next major installment in the reimagined DC Universe.

James Gunn, who co-heads DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, is once again returning as both writer and director, ensuring continuity in tone and vision. Fans can also expect the return of David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Nicholas Hoult as the calculating villain Lex Luthor. Gunn personally revealed the news on social media, unveiling the release date alongside an exclusive piece of artwork featuring Superman and Lex Luthor created by legendary DC Comics artist Jim Lee.

The announcement arrives at a pivotal moment for DC, as "Superman" continues to soar at the global box office. Since its July 11 release, the film has earned an impressive $611 million worldwide, including more than $300 million domestically-making it the first DC movie to cross that milestone since 2022's "The Batman". The film opened strong with a $125 million domestic debut, solidifying itself as a commercial and cultural reset for the franchise.

While Gunn had previously teased that he was already working on ideas for the next "Superman" story, he clarified that "Man of Tomorrow" would not be a traditional sequel. Instead, the film is expected to expand the mythology and further establish the foundations of the new DC Universe, which Gunn and Safran have branded as "Chapter One: Gods and Monsters."

DC Studios already has a robust slate on the horizon. "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow", starring Milly Alcock, is set to premiere on June 26, 2026, bringing Superman's Kryptonian cousin to the forefront of the cinematic timeline. Following that, the studio will also debut "Clayface" on September 11, 2026, marking the first live-action solo outing for the classic Batman villain.

The first "Superman" film not only reintroduced Clark Kent to a new generation of moviegoers but also integrated a wide array of DC heroes into its narrative. Alongside Corenswet and Hoult, the ensemble cast featured Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen. The movie also showcased several lesser-known heroes from the comics, including Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced).
