A significant new multi-year global distribution agreement between Paramount Pictures and Legendary Entertainment has been finalized, strengthening both studios' positions in the competitive theatrical marketplace. Under the newly signed pact, Paramount will take charge of marketing and distributing Legendary's slate of developed and produced films worldwide, except China, where Legendary East continues to manage all distribution and promotional efforts independently.
The first title to debut under this fresh partnership will be "Street Fighter", a highly anticipated adaptation of Capcom's legendary video game franchise. The movie, which is already in production, is being co-produced by Capcom and filmed specifically for IMAX to maximize its theatrical impact. Fans of the long-running fighting game series can look forward to the global release when the film officially hits theaters on October 16, 2026.
Josh Greenstein, Co-Chair of Paramount Pictures and Vice Chair of Platforms, and Dana Goldberg, Co-Chair of Paramount Pictures and Chair of Paramount Television, expressed their enthusiasm in a joint statement, saying, "Legendary has built a reputation for ambitious, globally appealing films, and we're excited to be partnering with them. Street Fighter is the perfect start to our collaboration, which we believe will be strong and lasting."
Despite this new agreement with Paramount, Legendary will maintain its ongoing relationship with Warner Bros., which continues to handle distribution for several of Legendary's most lucrative franchises. This includes "Dune: Part Three", the continuation of Denis Villeneuve's epic saga based on Frank Herbert's science fiction classic, currently in production and targeting a 2026 release. Warner Bros. is also on board to distribute "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova", the next chapter in the Monsterverse, expected to arrive in 2027, alongside other select projects.
"Partnering with David, Dana, and Josh and their teams at Paramount marks an exciting new chapter for Legendary as we continue to pursue a diversified growth strategy-expanding our output, building new franchises, and creating more films for global audiences. This partnership is an extraordinary opportunity, and we look forward to working closely with Paramount on stories that will captivate and inspire moviegoers worldwide," said Legendary CEO Josh Grode.
Legendary's recent successes include the record-breaking "Minecraft" movie, developed with Warner Bros. Pictures and starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, which leveraged the popularity of the world's best-selling video game. Other standout titles in Legendary's portfolio include "Dune and Dune: Part Two", both widely praised adaptations of Frank Herbert's epic saga; the enduring Monsterverse franchise with entries like "Godzilla x Kong"; the fan-favorite "Pokémon: Detective Pikachu"; and Netflix's "Enola Holmes" films starring Millie Bobby Brown.
