Kristen Bell has shared an update for fans eagerly awaiting Disney's next trip to Arendelle - revealing that production on "Frozen 3" is set to begin "soon."
The actress, who voices the endlessly optimistic Princess Anna, confirmed that the team behind the global blockbuster franchise is gearing up for its long-awaited third installment. While Bell hasn't yet heard the new songs that will define the upcoming sequel, she hinted that she's already had a sneak peek at the story.
"That's all I can say. I'm under lock and key," she teased.
Bell did, however, open up about Disney's famously meticulous creative process, explaining that the early stages of production are heavily focused on developing the story's overall concept and emotional direction.
"It's all mostly like concept stuff in the beginning, like, ‘Here's where we think it should go,'" she said. "That's the one great thing about Disney - it goes through a thousand filters, not to be diplomatic, but because everyone's going to add something different. That's why the movies play so well - they hit every single mark because nothing has been missed."
Disney has already announced that "Frozen 3" will hit theaters in 2027. Fans were given an early taste of the film's aesthetic in August 2024, when new visual development art was unveiled, showing Elsa (Idina Menzel) riding a majestic white horse through a snowy landscape, while Anna (Bell) appeared on a powerful brown stag.
The "Frozen" saga began in 2013 with the original Oscar-winning film directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, which became a worldwide phenomenon. The pair returned to helm "Frozen II" in 2019, which delved deeper into Elsa's magical origins and the bond between the two sisters.
Alongside Bell and Menzel, the returning cast includes Jonathan Groff as the kindhearted Kristoff and Josh Gad as the ever-cheerful snowman Olaf.
