Oscar, Emmy, and Tony-winning actress Helen Mirren has been named the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the Golden Globes' highest honor, celebrating lifetime achievement in entertainment. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the news on Wednesday, recognizing Mirren's six-decade career of extraordinary and enduring contributions to film and television.
The award will be presented on January 8, 2026, during the newly announced Golden Eve primetime special airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. The special will spotlight the Globes' two prestigious honorary awards: the Cecil B. DeMille Award, for motion picture achievement, and the Carol Burnett Award, which celebrates outstanding contributions to television. The recipient of the Burnett Award has not yet been announced.
Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne praised the actress in a statement, saying, "Helen Mirren is a force of nature and her career is nothing short of extraordinary. Her transcendent performances and commitment to her craft continue to inspire generations of artists and audiences alike. It is a profound honor to present her with the Cecil B. DeMille Award."
Mirren's long and diverse career has made her one of the most respected performers in the world. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2007 for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in "The Queen" and has earned a total of four Oscar nominations. Her 17 Golden Globe nominations have yielded three wins, alongside multiple Emmys and a Tony Award, making her one of the rare performers to achieve recognition across all major entertainment mediums.
Her filmography spans a stunning range-from early work in "Caligula" (1979) and "Excalibur" (1981) to acclaimed performances in "White Night"s (1985), "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover" (1989), "Gosford Park" (2001), "Calendar Girls" (2003), "Elizabeth I" (2005), and "Golda" (2023). On television, Mirren became an icon as Detective Jane Tennison in the long-running British crime drama "Prime Suspect" and earned additional acclaim for her role in the Golden Globe-winning miniseries "Losing Chase". Most recently, she joined the "Yellowstone" universe, portraying Cara Dutton in 1923.
Beyond her screen achievements, Mirren has been recognized with several prestigious honors. She was named a Dame of the British Empire in 2003 for her services to drama and received the SAG Life Achievement Award in 2022.
The Cecil B. DeMille Award has been presented annually since 1952 to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment. Past recipients include some of Hollywood's most legendary figures, such as Walt Disney, Audrey Hepburn, Sidney Poitier, Judy Garland, Elizabeth Taylor, Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and Oprah Winfrey. The most recent honoree was Viola Davis.
The Golden Eve special will celebrate this year's honorees with career retrospectives, exclusive interviews, and never-before-seen footage as part of the inaugural "Golden Week" leading up to the 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards on January 11, 2026, hosted for a second year by Nikki Glaser.
Nominations for the 2026 Golden Globes will be announced on December 8, kicking off a week of celebrations honoring the best in film and television.
