The stars of Disney+’s newest action-adventure series share how imagination, sisterhood, and teamwork power a world of armored dinosaurs.

With Armorsaurs now streaming on Disney+, the high-energy hybrid series blends live action and visual effects into a story that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. Developed by MGA Entertainment and distributed by CAKE Entertainment, the reimagined global version of the 2021 South Korean series follows five teen pilots bonded to armored dinosaurs as they defend Earth from a returning alien threat.

During a recent Zoom conversation, cast members Jailen Bates (“Liam”), Jacob Makabi (“T.J.”), Derrick Kwak (“Joon”), Avianna Mynhier (“Paloma”), Sade Louise (“Prisca”), and producer Kevin Yi opened up about what it took to bring this ambitious world to life, and why the heart of the series rests squarely with its human heroes.

“Our version of the show really emphasizes the five human pilots… and that’s a huge part of what makes this show the success that it is.” – Kevin Yi

Yi explained that the Disney+ version expands the original concept for a broader, family-friendly audience while keeping the emotional core intact. “It’s taking some of the elements that were present in the original show and really bringing them to a much wider audience,” he said. “We wanted something parents and children could watch together.”

That intentional focus on the pilots is reflected in the casting. Each actor brings something deeply personal to their role — sometimes mirroring their characters, sometimes challenging themselves to stretch in new ways.

“Each actor brings something to the table that is really similar to their character and very different from their character as well.” – Kevin Yi

Avianna Mynhier’s Paloma may be known for her sass, but there is more beneath the surface. Mynhier described the character’s arc as layered and collaborative.

“She definitely has this fear and insecurity of being everything she actually is… As the season goes on, you start to see her intelligence take a front seat.” – Avianna Mynhier

Sade Louise’s Prisca carries both strength and softness. While she leads with maturity, Louise connected deeply to her character’s sense of wonder.

“From that initial moment that we go into the dinosaur pen… there is that sense of almost childlike wonder that I really got to tap into.” – Sade Louise

That sisterly dynamic between Prisca and Paloma becomes one of the emotional anchors of the series. Off camera, the bond between Mynhier and Louise made those tense scenes easier, and more authentic.

“We would just be yelling at each other and fighting. Then they would yell cut, and we’d be giggling and giving each other a hug.” – Sade Louise

For Jailen Bates, stepping into the role of Liam meant embracing both science and heart. Though he laughs at calling himself a “nerdy scientist,” he found a deep connection in Liam’s loyalty and determination.

“I see so much of myself in Liam… playing that character and getting to portray his loyalty and determination was really an incredible opportunity.” – Jailen Bates

Of course, working opposite fully animated dinosaurs required a leap of faith. The cast filmed on a large-scale virtual production stage in South Korea, meaning much of what audiences see had to be imagined in the moment.

“There is a certain degree of imagination required… and then there’s a level where everything is imagined — your dinosaur, the space.” – Avianna Mynhier

Bates echoed that challenge, explaining that grounding the emotional stakes helped balance the technical demands. “Making sure that the emotional connection was there, that’s what made it feel real,” he said.

Producer Kevin Yi credited the Korean production team and collaborative atmosphere for helping blend animation and live action seamlessly. “Every movie is a miracle,” he admitted. “But having really good relationships — that’s how you get over the humps.”

“We really want kids to be able to see the show and understand that there are good people out there… and we should be attracted to the good guys.” – Kevin Yi

Ultimately, the bond between the five pilots extends far beyond the screen. Cast members described bonding nights, karaoke outings, and shared dinners that built genuine friendships, something that translates directly into the teamwork audiences see in every episode.

The first season of Armorsaurs includes 13 episodes and is now streaming on Disney+. A second season is already in motion, with production scheduled to begin this spring.
