Beaverton honors the animated adventure with a community event, mayoral proclamation, and cast appearance.
The city of Beaverton rolled out the red carpet for Hoppers on March 5, celebrating the upcoming animated adventure with a special proclamation ceremony and community event ahead of the film’s theatrical debut.
Held at the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts, the celebration featured Piper Curda, who voices the film’s lead character Mabel, and Bobby Moynihan, the voice behind King George. During the event, Beaverton Mayor Lacey Beaty officially proclaimed March 5 as “Hoppers Day,” honoring the film’s themes of friendship, community, and respect for the natural world.
The gathering brought together students from local middle and high schools, community members, and several special guests connected to the film. Among them was Dr. Emily Fairfax, a researcher who served as the movie’s primary beaver consultant. Attendees were also greeted by the viral life-size “Hoppers” character Tom Lizard and Beaverton’s official mascot, Billie the Beaver, adding to the playful atmosphere of the celebration.
As part of the ceremony, Mayor Beaty presented Curda and Moynihan with a handcrafted wooden key to the city. The actors returned the gesture by gifting the mayor and the city a unique piece of artwork created by Pixar Animation Studios as a token of appreciation for the community’s enthusiasm and support.
The event also offered a glimpse into the science behind the film. Dr. Fairfax delivered a presentation about real-world beavers and the research that helped inspire the story’s animal characters and environmental themes. Following her talk, Mayor Beaty moderated a question-and-answer session with Curda and Moynihan, who discussed their roles, the creative process behind the film, and what audiences can expect when the movie arrives in theaters.
After the ceremony concluded, guests were invited to special community screenings at Cinemark Cedar Hills. The festivities also included themed giveaways and photo opportunities for fans eager to celebrate the film’s release.
Although the story of Hoppers unfolds in a fictional town named Beaverton, the real-life city embraced the connection and saw it as a fun and meaningful opportunity to celebrate a movie that highlights cooperation and environmental awareness.
