The long-developing project about the iconic fairy is now a priority series for Disney+.

Disney+ is once again turning its attention to one of its most recognizable fairy tale characters. The streaming platform is developing a new series centered on Tinker Bell titled Tink, a project that has circulated inside the company in different forms for more than a decade.

The latest version is now being treated as a priority for the service, with Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter attached to write and executive produce the drama for Disney+ through 20th Television.

The project has gone through several earlier versions over the years. It was first announced in 2010 as a live-action romantic comedy that would have starred Elizabeth Banks. At the time, Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot, and McG were attached as producers.

Another iteration surfaced in 2015 when Reese Witherspoon was set to headline a live-action adaptation inspired by the famous fairy from Peter Pan.

Tinker Bell most recently appeared in Disney’s 2023 live-action film Peter Pan & Wendy, where the character was portrayed by Yara Shahidi.

The new series will also have veteran Disney executive Gary Marsh attached as an executive producer. Marsh previously served as president and chief creative officer of Disney Branded Television and Disney Channels Worldwide before leaving the company in 2021 to pursue producing projects. Tink was among the titles he was developing at the time.

Quinn Haberman of Selfish Mermaid will also executive produce alongside Heldens and Carpenter.

Heldens currently serves as co-showrunner on the ABC drama Will Trent and has previously worked on series including Boston Public, Mercy, Deception, and The Passage. Carpenter’s television credits include Only Murders in the Building, Parenthood, Westworld, The Red Road, and the limited series 11.22.63.
