A one-night-only Dolby Cinema screening turns Halfway to Halloween into a major theatrical launch moment for horror fans
Horror fans are getting an early jolt this spring as Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster team with New Line Cinema and Dolby Laboratories for the third annual Halfway to Halloween celebration, this time with a major twist.
This year’s event signals a shift in how studios are engaging horror audiences, transforming a fan-driven celebration into a coordinated theatrical experience built around a brand-new release.
For the first time, the fan-favorite event will spotlight a brand-new theatrical release: The Mummy, directed by Lee Cronin. The film will debut in a one-night-only premiere screening on April 16 at 7 p.m., exclusively in Dolby Cinema at 183 AMC Theatres locations across 47 cities nationwide.
Unlike previous years, which revisited beloved titles from the Blumhouse-Atomic Monster catalog, this year’s Halfway to Halloween marks a bold evolution, giving audiences a synchronized, opening-night experience typically reserved for blockbuster releases.
The screening is designed to fully immerse audiences using Dolby’s advanced technology, pairing pristine laser projection with precision audio for maximum impact. Simply put, this is horror as it was meant to be experienced, loud, intense, and shared with a packed crowd.
“I wanted to make a movie that gets under your skin in the most literal way possible,” Cronin said in a statement. “There are images in this film that are going to make you look away and not be able to stop looking at the same time. Experiencing that in Dolby, surrounded by a crowd who has no idea what’s coming, on opening night, will be unforgettable.”
“Horror fans don’t wait for Halloween,” said Jason Blum, Founder and CEO of Blumhouse. “They live in it all year. This year, we wanted to give them something they’ve never had from Halfway to Halloween: opening night! Lee Cronin made something genuinely disturbing, and we want the people who love this genre to be the first ones inside the theater together.”
The nationwide event will span major markets including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, and Seattle, among dozens of others, making it one of the most expansive genre fan events of the year.
The Halfway to Halloween initiative has quickly become a signature celebration for the horror community, but this year’s edition signals something bigger: a shift toward turning the event into a true launchpad for major releases. With The Mummy positioned as one of 2026’s most anticipated horror films, the strategy underscores the growing power of fandom-driven theatrical experiences.
The collaboration also highlights the dominance of Blumhouse-Atomic Monster in the genre. Since merging in 2024, the combined powerhouse has generated nearly $10 billion at the global box office and produced close to 250 films and television series, including juggernauts like Get Out, Whiplash, and BlacKkKlansman, along with franchises such as The Conjuring, Halloween, and Insidious.
New Line Cinema also continues to be a horror leader, recently surpassing $1 billion in annual horror box office revenue, an achievement it has now reached twice. Its legacy includes massive hits and enduring franchises, reinforcing its nickname as “The House That Freddy Built.”
Tickets for the one-night-only screening are on sale now.
