Primate: Killer Chimp or Cheap Thrills?

Full Video Review

A tense creature feature elevated by strong performances and relentless primal chaos.

Izola reviews Primate on Blu-ray, breaking down the rabid chimp horror, video transfer, Dolby Atmos audio, and bonus features.

Primate arrives on Blu-ray with a tense creature-feature setup, a Hawaiian getaway gone violently wrong, and a rabid chimpanzee named Ben turning a relaxing trip into survival horror.

In this FlickDirect review, Izola looks at the film’s performances, creature effects, jump scares, and straightforward thriller structure before digging into the Blu-ray presentation. The 1080p video captures Hawaii’s lush scenery and dark nighttime sequences well, while the Dolby Atmos track delivers strong atmosphere and attack effects, even if a few moments could have hit harder.

The Blu-ray also includes commentary, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes material, and the trailer. For fans of animal-attack horror, survival thrillers, and creature features, Primate is a solid B-level release with better acting than expected and enough tension to make the disc worth a look.

ABOUT PRIMATE

Lucy (Johnny Sequoyah) returns home from college to reunite with her family—and their beloved pet chimpanzee, Ben. During a seemingly ordinary pool party, the chimp contracts rabies and becomes violently unpredictable, turning a joyful gathering into a nightmare of survival and primal terror.

As Lucy and her friends scramble to barricade themselves and seek escape, they discover the chimp's sudden aggression may be more than disease—it might be the trigger for something far darker. In Primate, director Johannes Roberts blends body horror with psychological suspense, forcing every character to question loyalty, instincts, and the thin line between human and beast.
