Morgan Freeman, the current star of the "Batman" franchise, was in a car accident Sunday night in Mississippi.  Although he and his passenger were airlifted to a Memphis hospital, he has no life-threatening injuries.

Freeman, who is 71, was driving on Mississippi Highway 32 in Tallahatchie County when his vehicle went off the edge of the road. Freeman overcorrected, flipping his 1997 Nissan Maxima several times before coming to a stop.

Bill Luckett, Freeman's business partner, said "He's resting quietly and has some fractures. Nothing life-threatening. Nothing permanent. He's in good spirits, but he's in some pain."   According to filmmaker Paul Saltzman, he has a broken shoulder and arm and recovery will be about 6-8 weeks.

No information has been released on the condition of Freeman's passenger, Demaris Meyer.
