Letters, written by Stephanie Meyer and Chris Weitz were published so that fans could be made aware of the situation. While there is no real reason given as to why Hardwicke was let go, Meyer assures fans that Weitz is "eager to keep the movie as close to the book as possible. He is also very aware of you, the fans, and wants to keep you all extremely happy...I'm really looking forward to seeing his vision for New Moon."
