Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson have been confirmed for roles in "Downton Abbey" director Brian Percivals' adaptation of the 2005 award winning best seller, "The Book Thief", written by Marcus Zusak.
The story is set to the backdrop of the second World War, and is narrated by Death. Death, by his own admission, is rather busy in this particular moment in time, but this does not stop him having an obsession with Liesel Meminger, an adopted girl who goes to live with Hans & Rosa Hubermann.
Geoffrey Rush ( Pirates of The Caribbean, The Kings Speech) and Emily Watson (Red Dragon, Warhorse) are set to play the Hubermann's while twelve year old French Canadian actress Sophie Nelisse is set to play the leading role of Liesel. Michael Petroni wrote the screenplay adaptation of the book, which spent over 230 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. Also cast are Ben Schnetzer and Nico Liersch, but there's no word on what their roles will be as of yet.
Shooting is due to start in Berlin in the forthcoming weeks.
