Disney's Beauty and the Beast hits theaters on March 17, but not without controversy. You may be wondering what could possibly be controversial about this animated turned live-action classic? Well, according to Russia's United Party MP, Vitaly Milonov, the film could be banned under their "anti-gay" laws.
In the film, Josh Gad portrays Le Fou, one of Gaston's admirers. It is said that this is Disney's first gay character, and, while that may be, others have also described him as a character who has more of a "bromance" with Gaston.
Russia isn't alone in their thinking. A Christian owned drive-in in Alabama decided yesterday that they would not be showing the movie.
According to reports, Vitaly Milonov has asked Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky to review the film and see if it contains "elements of propaganda of homosexuality" and should be be banned.
