"Labyrinth is one of the seminal movies from my childhood that made me fall in love with filmmaking. I couldn't be more thrilled to expand on Jim Henson's mesmerizing universe, and take a new generation of moviegoers back into the Labyrinth", said Alvarez.
The film, which will be a co-production between TriStar and he Jim Henson Co., will most likely be a spinoff or sequel of the original, and not a remake. It will based within the same world, yet be an entirely different story.
"Labrynth" was Jim Henson's last film that he directed before dying in 1990. It followed the story of a girl (Jennifer Connelly) who wishes away her baby brother. Unfortunately, she gets her wish, and he is stolen from her by the The Goblin King Jareth (David Bowie). She then goes through the film trying to rescue him and finding her way through his maze-like kingdom.
