Amazon Set to Acquire MGM for $9 Billion

It's being reported that Amazon is currently in negotiations to acquire MGM for about $9 billion.

The MGM film catalog includes many iconic film franchises including "James Bond", "Hobbit", "Rocky"/"Creed", "RoboCop" and "Pink Panther" franchises. It also includes other hits such as "The Silence of the Lambs," "The Magnificent Seven" and "Four Weddings and a Funeral." Their TV catalog includes "Stargate SG-1," "Stargate Atlantis," "Stargate Universe," "Vikings," "Fargo," "The Handmaid's Tale," "Get Shorty," "Condor," "Fame," "American Gladiators," "Teen Wolf", "In the Heat of the Night", "The Voice," "Survivor," "Shark Tank," "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" and "The Hills." In total, the studio is comprised of 4,000 film titles and 17,000 episodes of television.

MGM has been for sale since December, and this would be a huge addition, both figuratively and literally, for Amazon. Prime has over 200 million subscribers, with over 175 million of those members streaming content.

Amazon is always looking to add more content, spending over $11 billion on TV shows movies, and music for Prime in 2020 alone.
