Prolific writer and creator Kevin Williamson has entered a deal with Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. The overall deal includes Williamson's production company, Outerbanks Entertainment, and involves four diverse projects in development at the TV studio, spanning thriller, murder mystery, and family crime drama genres.
One of the projects is a reimagining of Alfred Hitchcock's classic "Rear Window," set up at Peacock. Additionally, there's "The It Girl," based on Ruth Ware's book, "The Waterfront," an original concept, and "The Game," inspired by David Fincher's film. Williamson's collaboration with Universal Television has garnered praise from Erin Underhill, the President of Universal Television, highlighting Williamson's creativity and the exciting projects in the works.
Outerbanks Entertainment, led by Ben Fast and Julia Buckingham, is overseeing the development slate. Williamson, known for his work on horror franchises like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, is taking on the challenge of reimagining Hitchcock's masterpiece. The projects also include "The Waterfront," a family crime drama set in North Carolina, and "The It Girl," a suspenseful narrative exploring a decade-old murder.
Williamson expressed his excitement about joining the Universal Television family, saying, "I couldn't be more thrilled to be part of the Universal Television family. When making television, it's so important to have partners who believe, support and inspire you. In Universal Television I have found exactly that. I'm excited to be working with such an amazing team doing what I love to do."
Erin Underhill, President of Universal Television, commented on the news, saying, "Kevin is a prolific and brilliant creator with a proven track record of producing iconic hits for both the big and small screen. He's a trusted collaborator whose imagination is boundless and inspiring. We love our creative partnership with Kevin and his terrific team at Outerbanks. We think fans will love everything they are cooking up."
