Following the announcement of his next film, Werwulf, from Focus Features, Robert Eggers has now signed on to direct a new Labyrinth movie for TriStar Pictures. This news comes after the announcement of the 2025 Oscar nominations, where Eggers' hit film Nosferatu garnered four nods in Cinematography, Costume Design, Production Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling.

The original Labyrinth, a beloved cult classic, starred Jennifer Connelly as Sarah, a teenage girl who must navigate a treacherous maze to rescue her baby brother from the Goblin King, played by the iconic David Bowie. Despite a modest box office performance upon its initial release, the film has grown in stature over the years, with its innovative puppetry and fantastical elements still celebrated by fans. It has spawned a wide array of tie-ins, including novels, comics, and video games, as well as annual fan events like the Labyrinth Masquerade Ball.

Details about the new Labyrinth film aren't known, but it's confirmed that Eggers' version will be a sequel, not a remake, of the 1986 fantasy classic directed by Jim Henson. Creating a Labyrinth sequel has been in motion since 2017, with Scott Derrickson previously attached to direct a different version.

Eggers is co-writing the script with Sjón, his collaborator from The Northman and Werwulf. The project will be produced by Chris and Eleanor Columbus, with Lisa Henson and Brian Henson also involved in production roles.
