The creators of South Park and Paramount Global have finally come to an agreement, and the result is a massive, multi-year agreement that ensures the animated comedy's future for years to come.

Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have finalized an expansive five-year extension of their overall deal with Paramount Global, which includes an order for 50 brand-new episodes of South Park, a commitment that reaffirms the show's staying power well into its third decade.

All 26 previous seasons of South Park will finally be made available in one place - Paramount+. This will mark the first time the entire library will be hosted on the platform, with new episodes continuing to premiere on Comedy Central, before landing on Paramount+ the very next day.

News of the finalized agreement arrives just days after rumors surfaced of a deal nearing completion, one that was reportedly worth around $300 million annually, totaling $1.5 billion over the next five years. According to insiders, negotiations had been contentious, with disagreements over valuation and competing interests from both Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix, where Parker and Stone previously had ancillary deals.

"Trey and I and the whole South Park crew are grateful for this extension and this deal. We want to thank Chris McCarthy and Keyes Hill-Edgar for years of great partnership and are looking forward to continuing to make South Park for the next five years," Matt Stone said in a statement.

Parker echoed his co-creator's sentiments, adding a sports-like passion to the announcement: "We are grateful for this opportunity and deeply honored by the trust placed in us. This is about more than a contract - it's about our commitment to this organization, our teammates, and our fans. We're focused on building something special and doing whatever it takes to bring championships to this city."

The renewal process had its share of complications. At the heart of the delay was a high-stakes power struggle involving Paramount's transition of leadership. In June, Parker and Stone accused Jeff Shell, the incoming president of Paramount, of derailing the deal by interfering with ongoing negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery (the parent company of HBO Max, which had streaming rights to older seasons) and Netflix.

Meanwhile, executives from Skydance Media, currently in the process of acquiring Paramount Global, reportedly balked at the initial terms of the renewal, said to be worth a staggering $3 billion over 10 years. Skydance's leadership reportedly sought to reduce the length and cost of the agreement, leading to last-minute rewrites and a two-week delay in the Season 27 premiere.

Originally scheduled to debut on , South Park Season 27 was ultimately pushed back to due to the prolonged negotiations.

The finalized deal is also a significant win for Paramount+, which has struggled to carve out a larger share of the streaming market amid fierce competition. With the entire South Park library moving exclusively to the platform, Paramount+ gains a cornerstone property with massive international appeal and a rabid fanbase that spans generations.

"Matt and Trey are singular, creative forces whose fearless humor and boundary-pushing storytelling have made South Park one of the most beloved and enduring series ever - more popular today than at any point in its history, and one of the most valuable TV franchises in the world," said Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global and president of Showtime/MTV Entertainment.

McCarthy continued, "They are exceptional talents and trusted partners - we're thrilled that Comedy Central and now Paramount+ globally will be the home to South Park for years to come, and our thanks to the Skydance team for their vital partnership in making this happen."

The deal also extends the leadership of South Park's core creative and production team. In addition to Parker and Stone, longtime collaborators Anne Garefino and Frank C. Agnone II will continue serving as executive producers. Other key team members include Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell, and Vernon Chatman, who have all played pivotal roles in the show's creative evolution.

Overseeing the franchise's digital footprint is Christopher Brion, who serves as Creative Director of South Park Digital Studios—a joint venture between Park County and Paramount Global, responsible for managing the brand across platforms, merchandise, and special projects.

Even after nearly three decades on air, South Park remains one of the most watched, discussed, and dissected animated series on television. Its legacy as a sharp-tongued cultural critic and satirical powerhouse has only grown with age. Whether skewering politics, social trends, or Hollywood, South Park has consistently remained fearless in its approach and remarkably consistent in its fan engagement.
