Hulu renews its breakout comedy “Chad Powers” for a second season with Glen Powell returning as the eccentric title character.
Hulu is doubling down on one of its most surprising and talked-about new comedies. The streamer has officially renewed the Hulu Original series "Chad Powers" for a second season, with Glen Powell set to reprise his role as the endearingly oddball title character.
The comedy, which premiered earlier this fall, quickly generated buzz for its blend of sports parody, heartfelt underdog storytelling, and the sheer commitment of Powell's performance. The show draws its inspiration from the viral "Eli's Places" segment created by ESPN and Omaha Productions, in which NFL legend Eli Manning used prosthetics to pose as an eccentric walk-on named Chad Powers during a Penn State football tryout. Manning's character became an instant fan favorite, paving the way for a scripted adaptation.
Season one introduced viewers to Russ Holliday, played by Powell, an incredibly gifted quarterback whose promising college future implodes after a disastrous mistake. Eight years later, desperate for a second chance, Russ reinvents himself as Chad Powers, an offbeat but undeniably talented football hopeful who secretly joins the struggling South Georgia Catfish.
The ensemble cast includes Perry Mattfeld as Ricky, Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd, Wynn Everett as Tricia Yeager, Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny, and Steve Zahn as Coach Jake Hudson.
"Chad Powers" originates from co-creators Glen Powell and Michael Waldron, who developed the series alongside Manning and his Omaha Productions team. Season one's impressive list of executive producers includes Powell, Waldron, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown, Burke Magnus, Brian Lockhart, Kati Fernandez, Adam Fasullo, Luvh Rakhe, and Tony Yacenda. The show is produced by 20th Television, a Disney Television Studios company.
The renewal shows Hulu's commitment to expanding its comedic slate with original concepts. With both Powell and Waldron returning for season two, fans can expect more character-driven humor, football-fueled chaos, and unexpected twists as Chad continues balancing his fabricated identity with his quest for redemption.
All episodes of season one are currently streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S., and on Disney+ internationally. The series has continued to attract new viewers since its debut, aided by strong word of mouth and the viral legacy of the Chad Powers persona.
