As Avatar: Fire and Ash approaches release, Weaver is circling a major role in Amazon’s new Tomb Raider series starring Sophie Turner.

Sigourney Weaver may already be charting her next major screen adventure. The acclaimed actress, as "Avatar: Fire and Ash" prepares to hit theaters this month, is in discussions to join Prime Video’s upcoming "Tomb Raider" series, sources say. Her role has not been disclosed, and Amazon is keeping quiet, but the possibility alone has stirred early buzz.

The new series, which begins filming on January 19, will introduce audiences to Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. The project is creatively driven by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is writing and executive producing, bringing her signature sharp wit and character-driven storytelling into the beloved action franchise.

The behind-the-camera lineup is equally robust. Chad Hodge joins Waller-Bridge as co-showrunner and executive producer, while Jonathan Van Tulleken, known for his work on "Shōgun" and "Dope Thief", will direct and executive produce. The show is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios, Story Kitchen, and Crystal Dynamics, the longtime steward of the Tomb Raider games. Executive producers also include Crystal Dynamics, Waller-Bridge, and Jenny Robins through Wells Street Productions; Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson for Story Kitchen; Michael Scheel, Hodge, and Legendary Television.

Since her debut as Ripley in "Alien", she has remained a dominant figure in science fiction and adventure storytelling. Her work in James Cameron’s Avatar saga, now one of the most successful film franchises in history, has further cemented her legacy.

Weaver returns to the big screen in "Avatar: Fire and Ash" on December 19. In 2026, she is set to appear in "Star Wars: The Mandalorian" and "Grogu". She also stars in Bryan Fuller’s dark fantasy film "Dust Bunny", opening this weekend.
