The long-running franchise is expanding beyond theaters as Peacock prepares multiple new streaming series tied to one of Universal’s biggest brands.
NBCUniversal made a major franchise announcement during its annual Upfront presentation, revealing that Peacock will become home to four new Fast & Furious series.
While specific plot details, titles, and release windows remain under wraps, the expansion signals a significant new chapter for one of Universal’s most successful global properties. Across 11 films, the Fast & Furious franchise has evolved from a street-racing action series into a worldwide blockbuster brand built around high-speed spectacle, explosive action, and the importance of family.
During the presentation, Vin Diesel confirmed the streaming expansion and emphasized that the creative team remains highly protective of the franchise’s future storytelling direction. According to Diesel, the people behind the franchise are “very precious” about maintaining the spirit and identity of the series as it expands onto Peacock.
NBCUniversal also confirmed that Diesel will serve as a producer on all four projects. Additionally, Wolfe Coleman (Shades of Blue) and Mike Daniels (Sons of Anarchy) are involved creatively with the upcoming series.
Because the announcement included few concrete details, speculation surrounding the potential concepts has already begun. The streaming projects could explore prequel stories, focus on individual characters, or introduce entirely new corners of the Fast & Furious universe.
Expanding the franchise into serialized storytelling also creates opportunities to explore character relationships and emotional arcs more deeply than the films traditionally allow. While the movies have always relied heavily on large-scale action sequences and increasingly elaborate stunts, the emotional connection between the characters has remained the franchise’s core foundation.
Peacock also benefits from inheriting one of Hollywood’s most recognizable built-in fan bases. The Fast & Furious audience has consistently supported the franchise across theaters, streaming, merchandise, and theme park experiences, allowing Peacock to generate long-term subscriber engagement around repeat viewing.
NBCUniversal’s broader strategy surrounding the franchise continues to expand beyond traditional film releases as well. Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort are both developing new Fast & Furious roller coasters featuring ride systems inspired by the franchise’s signature drifting, racing, and high-speed chase sequences.
The streaming expansion also creates new opportunities for NBCUniversal’s growing advertising and commerce initiatives, including interactive “shop the episode” integrations tied to cars, fashion, travel, and lifestyle brands associated with the franchise.
For NBCUniversal, Fast & Furious remains far more than a movie franchise. It is a global entertainment brand that continues evolving across theaters, streaming, theme parks, and consumer products. Even without release dates or story details, the announcement of four new Peacock series immediately positions the franchise as a major part of the platform’s future programming strategy.
