The premium large-format cinema experience continues expanding across Europe as audiences embrace enhanced theatrical presentation.

Vue has reached a significant milestone with its EPIC premium cinema format, reporting more than 400,000 admissions less than a year after launching the concept.

EPIC by Vue has surpassed 400,000 admissions in less than a year.

Developed in partnership with cinema technology company Barco, EPIC by Vue was introduced in 2025 as the exhibitor’s premium large-format offering. The concept debuted at Vue Nottingham and has since expanded to 15 screens across 14 locations throughout Europe, including sites in Amsterdam, Milan, Silea, Bristol, Castleford, Islington, and Leicester Square.

According to Vue, repeat visitation rates for EPIC are running at roughly twice the level of other premium large-format experiences across its circuit.

The format combines HDR by Barco projection technology with Dolby Atmos sound, creating a presentation designed to deliver brighter images, stronger contrast, and more immersive audio.

Vue says EPIC remains a key part of its long-term strategy and plans to significantly expand the format, with ambitions to install more than 60 screens across its European estate.

“The success of EPIC by Vue shows that when we invest in the very best cinema experience, powered by the latest and greatest technology, audiences respond,” said Vue Founder and CEO Tim Richards.

Richards added that the company’s goal was to create what it believes is the best possible way to experience movies on the big screen through enhanced image quality, sound, and scale.

To mark the milestone, Vue and Barco have released a behind-the-scenes feature documenting the creation of the EPIC brand and its promotional campaign.

Gerwin Damberg, Executive Vice President of Barco Cinema, said the goal of the technology is to allow filmmakers’ work to remain the focus rather than the technology itself.

“Cinema is at its most powerful when nothing stands between the audience and the story,” Damberg said.

Vue plans to continue expanding the format, with more than 60 EPIC screens currently planned across its European circuit.
