Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 Premiere: Out of Time Streaming Review

2 Min Read

The time travel and history included in Season’s Two’s premiere seems to take the show into a different direction than Season One.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow starts off in Season Two with our favorite Captain, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill; Doctor Who), missing in action.  In fact, all of our Legends are MIA.  Luckily, Dr. Nate Haywood (Nick Zano; The Final Destination), obsessed with time travel, discovers a time ripple and seeks out Oliver Queen, who Nate already knows is the Green Arrow (Stephen Amell; Arrow), to help him find all the Legends and save the world.

After getting the team back together, minus Captain Hunter, who seems to have sacrificed himself for his team, Nate is rewarded by traveling with them to 1942. Together, they save the world from nuclear destruction when they save Albert Einstein from being kidnapped by the Nazis.  Nate's knowledge of history uniquely helps the team and they welcome him as more than just a guest aboard their ship.  His overall synchrony with the Legends works well and I can definitely see how he can benefit the team and help them in their quest to find Rip Hunter.

I really love the crossovers between the CW shows and bringing the Green Arrow into the season premiere was a brilliant move.  It was a better choice than the Flash or Supergirl because the Arrow is a more mature character and gives Legends a bit more of an adult-ish tone, which is needed so that it can reel in the adult viewers and not just the kids.

The time travel and history included in Season's Two's premiere seems to take the show into a different direction than Season One; whereas Season One reminded me of the Captain on a wild goose chase, Season Two is already starting off with what appears to be a more concrete storyline.  I'm curious to see how the team manages to stick together and focus on tasks at hand without Captain Hunter to liven things up.  While I hope that this upcoming Season is dedicated to finding where the Captain is (is he lost in space and time?)  I also hope that his boyish interactions with the Legends is not lost and that the writers can still bring that atmosphere into the show without Darvill's presence in every episode.

We've also lost Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller; Supernatural) as a regular on the show.  Leaks indicate that we will see Captain Cold sporadically throughout the season, but shown in the past, since his character was killed off in the Season One finale, fighting the Time Masters.  His sarcasm will need to be replaced as well as his unique dynamic within the team.

Is Nate going to bring the boyish charm or the sarcastic humor?  Without it, I fear the show will become more of a full on drama and lose the charming quality that the CW Superhero television shows seem to exude.  I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with DC's Legends of Tomorrow and hope that Captain Hunter hasn't disappeared forever.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow can be found on the CW on Thursday's at 8 p.m.

When the producers of the movie Annie held auditions in NYC, Jennifer stood on line in the cold to try out for a part and actually made it past the first few try-outs. A vivacious reader, she is fascinated watching books and stories brought to life on the big screen. Jennifer has passed her love of movies onto her children and they are often found planning their weekends around opening premieres.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow provides a smooth and easy to follow the storyline, the cast meshes and seamlessly works together. This is a family friendly television series that uses history, science, and sci-fi to provide a lot of conversation once the episode airs.
