Hey, everybody, and welcome back to this week's episode of Flick News. Izola here with FlickDirect, and if you're new, this is where I share some of the newest movie news that we've received within the last week. So, grab your popcorn, sit back, relax, and let's get this started. First, we got some big news, but I look at it more as bad news. There was a Star Wars movie that was slated to come out around December of 2026, but it looks like we are not getting that as it's being pushed back.
I didn't even know if anything had started, seeing as how we hadn't heard anything too much about it, whether or not they even started a script, who knows. But instead, we're getting Ice Age 6. We're up to 6 now. I didn't even realize that because I think I stopped watching it after 2. But hey! You know, something new for the kiddos, I guess. Now, this also comes after some setbacks for the Rey movie that they were working on as they lost their screenwriter.
So, Star Wars franchise isn't really doing too well right now with all these setbacks or postponements or not happenings at all. Now, while it wasn't actually said that this movie was related to the Rey project, it's kind of feeling like it is, just based off of, you know, how they're now postponing it, potentially indefinitely. You know, if you lose your screenwriter, that kind of stops things from moving forward.
So, now, don't worry, because the Mandalorian and Grogu movie is still set for May of 2026. And it does also look like there's another one coming out for December of 2020. So, you know, if this 2026 movie is not going to work out, I mean, they have time. We can wait because we have other options. I mean, we have the skeleton crew coming up and Andor season 2.
So, we have stuff to look forward to, okay? So, don't worry. Be sure to check in frequently because, you know, once I get back, I'm going to be back. Once I get some information, I will definitely let you guys know. Next, the Fantastic Four movie is looking to be shaping up to be something fairly exciting now that we've got a little bit more information on what the movie is going to be about and how and where it's going to be set.
So, if you're looking forward to that, I've got some information for you. Now, we are all aware of who is going to be starring in the movie and who we are going to be seeing and that it also takes place during the movie. During the 60s, which I find to be a very fascinating time, a very fun time, especially because it's mid-century modern, but then it's starting to kind of creep into, you know, some, I'd say mid-century modern meets psychedelic, maybe?
You know, there were a few things that happened in the 60s that I remember my grandmother talking about. So, you know, who knows if they'll touch upon those, but we'll have to wait and see on that. That was not revealed. What was also revealed previously was that we were getting Galactus and Silver Surfer. So, for those of us who are fans, that was very exciting news when we first got that.
Now, the movie's synopsis hints that this is going to be a very personal fight for the team, especially as they're trying to stop Galactus's destructive plans, which, if you know anything about the comics, Galactus doesn't go down without a fight and it's pretty devastating. So, it should be very cool to watch on the big screen and I'm really looking forward to that.
Now, we also know that John Malkovich, Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and also Sarah Niles will have acting roles in the movie, but they have not confirmed what those roles will be at this time, which I'm fine with that because, you know, I like surprises. Michael Gianchino will be making the score and then the movie is supposed to come out in July of 2025.
So, it's almost right around the corner. This year has flown by fast. So, 2025 is going to have a lot for us, even though some things have gotten postponed. But, you know, at least we have another reason besides Deadpool and Wolverine to hear Flame On. So, I don't know if you're excited about that as I am, but... Although, every time I hear it now, I just laugh because, you know, it's just too much.
But anyway, if anything else comes out, which I'm sure we'll start getting some trailers pretty soon, I will definitely share those with you. So, stay tuned. In other news, the Predator franchise is actually taking a very bold turn with the new Badlands movie that's coming out. And I'm pretty excited about this one. I love the Predator movies and, you know, just like the Alien movies, sometimes you have hits and misses.
But, you know, we've been getting some good movies lately with those. So, I'm really excited to see what they're going to do with this one. Now, this is being directed by Dan Trachtenberg and it's set to come out in 2025. So, see, another movie to look forward to. And this is a direct sequel to Prey. So, again, Prey did great. I've thoroughly enjoyed that movie.
So, I have very high hopes for this one, even though I like to set my standards low when it comes to sequels. I have high hopes for it. Now, something that's different is that this is actually going to take place on an alien planet. Now, what's the twist that they have released? Because, I mean, inquiring minds want to know, right? Well, this time, the Predator is actually the protagonist.
It's going to be very interesting. But, Dan Trachtenberg really aims to make the creatures very emotionally compelling as well as intimidating. So, I'm really curious to see how that's going to be pulled off. But, I mean, obviously, we would be aliens to them. And we can show very compelling emotions depending on the situation. So, I really don't think that it would be that difficult, even though they're not speaking a language, to really be able to show the emotions and really actually make us feel for them as a protagonist.
What will be a little bit weird is, you know, having us as an audience rooting for the Predator. But, I mean, if you write it correctly, I really think that we won't be able to do that. We won't have too many issues doing that. Again, very curious as to where the storyline is going to go. But, it's a nice twist. Not just following the same pattern of, you know, how the Predator usually is the antagonist.
While the Predator is going to be front and center, that doesn't mean that the humans will not play a role in the movie. I know that Elle Fanning is actually going to be playing a few different roles in it. Not that too much has been disclosed on that. But, we will see. We will definitely be seeing the human race in there. How they will be portrayed, we're just not too sure yet.
What I did find interesting is that Trachtenberg actually said that Fanning definitely went through some physical and dramatic things on set. So, you know this is not just going to be a cakewalk for her or any of the actors. As, again, it is a sci-fi thriller action-packed type movie. So, you're not just sitting there, you know, twiddling your thumbs.
It's going to be a lot of action and a lot of demands on the actors themselves. Predator Badlands is actually set to be released November 7th, 2025 in the UK. So, we'll have to wait just a tiny bit longer until the US gets it. There are no dates yet set for the US. But, once I hear those, I will definitely let you guys know. Finally, Sophie Turner, who is best known as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones.
Or, maybe you liked her Jean Grey in the X-Men movies. I'd like them to redo Phoenix, but, you know, that's a whole other story. She is actually going to be playing that wonderful character that we all love. And, I started with the video games. Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. Now, according to THR, this is going to be on Amazon. And, Sophie Turner was actually on a short list.
There weren't too many people that they had, that they wanted to play Lara. You know, I think it takes a certain attitude. And, we have seen that she can pretty much play almost any type of character. And, she's extremely witty and very fun. So, I feel like we're going to get enough sass and intelligence, I guess you would say, for this character. Because, Lara Croft is actually extremely intelligent.
Not just, you know, the female Indiana Jones type. If you would, you know, have to describe her as a character that we all know. Now, with these adaptations from video games to film and television, like Fallout. The Last of Us. You know, they're really jumping on this bandwagon. And, I'm really, really hoping that they get this right. Because, although I've enjoyed the Tomb Raider films, there was always something a little lacking.
So, if they're going to do a TV production of this, hopefully they'll be able to expand on certain areas that they really weren't able to do in the films. Um. But, you know. We'll just have to wait and see. And, if you're like me, like I've said a billion times. Low expectations. Then, you know, you're rarely ever extremely disappointed. You can be like, "Eh, it was fun to watch." I hope it's going to give us more than that.
But, you know. If I set my expectations that low, then I can't be too disappointed. Now, I know I said she got the role. But, she really is on a short list. So, I'm kind of... I'm kind of manifesting it, so to speak. Um. Because, again, I really feel that she does have such a wide range for acting skills that it would kind of be a miss if they did not attach her to this franchise.
Um. You know. But, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Again, there's been no information on it. But, I really think that this would be the way to go. And that it could really put a fresh new set of eyes and skills onto this movie. Um. Or show. And, uh. Yeah. I mean. We'll just have to wait and see. But, if I hear anything new, which I'm assuming something's going to be released pretty soon.
Especially if they're, you know, mentioning her name and saying it's a short list. There's probably a 90% guarantee that she's our new Lara Croft. But, let me know what you think. Do you think that Sophie Turner would be a good fit for this? Um. We've seen her with different hair colors. So, don't worry about her bright red hair. Uh. I don't think that that's going to be an issue whatsoever.
But, I know some people just see the red hair and go, "Oh, no. That's not Lara Croft." I really think she can pull it off. And we need a Brit. Because Americans, yes, while they are great at acting, sometimes they're really just not great with those British accents. So. But, again. We'll just have to wait and see. And I will keep you posted. And with that, this concludes this week's episode of Flick News.
