Christian Slater Cast as Lead In Spiderwick Chronicles

Christian Slater has been cast as a lead in the upcoming Disney+ series "The Spiderwick Chronicles".

The program will be a live-action adaptation of the series of best-selling fantasy books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black.

Slater will be playing the villainous role of Mulgarath (a.k.a. Dr. Dorian Brauer), who is a typical people-eating ogre. He is searching for the secrets contained in Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Natural World to feed his desires.

The first two episodes of the series will be directed by Kat Coiro with Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television producing. Aron Eli Coleite will serve as the series showrunner, as well as executive producer alongside Coiro, Holly Black,  DiTerlizzi, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, and Julie Kane-Ritsch.

Slater won several awards, including a Golden Globe Award, for his role in "Mr. Robot".

"The Spiderwick Chronicles" is set for a 2023 debut.
