Barco’s enhanced HDR format will bring sharper visuals and deeper contrast to several of Sony’s biggest 2026 releases

As studios continue looking for ways to make theatrical releases feel more premium, Sony Pictures is deepening its partnership with Barco to bring enhanced HDR presentations to several of its biggest upcoming films.

Announced during CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, Sony confirmed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Insidious: Out of the Further, Resident Evil, and Jumanji: Open World will all be released in Barco’s premium HDR format later this year.

The move reflects a growing push across the exhibition industry to give moviegoers a more immersive reason to return to theaters, especially for major tentpole releases that benefit from richer visuals and stronger contrast.

Among the most anticipated titles in the lineup is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrives July 31 and marks a major new chapter for Peter Parker following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Horror fans will also get a premium-format boost with Insidious: Out of the Further on August 21 and Zach Cregger’s reimagined Resident Evil on September 18.

To close out the year, Sony’s holiday tentpole Jumanji: Open World will also receive the Barco HDR treatment when it opens on Christmas Day, giving audiences another large-scale theatrical event designed for premium screens.

These additions build on Sony’s earlier 2026 Barco HDR plans for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and GOAT, signaling the studio’s long-term commitment to expanding premium presentation options across genres.

For moviegoers, Barco’s HDR format is designed to deliver brighter highlights, deeper blacks, and more vivid color, helping large-scale action, horror, and effects-driven films feel more visually dynamic on the big screen.

As theaters continue competing with at-home viewing, premium formats like HDR are becoming an increasingly important part of the moviegoing experience. Sony’s latest Barco slate suggests the studio sees that technology as a major part of its theatrical future.
