The longtime exhibition and distribution executive succeeds Ray Nutt as Fathom continues expanding its role in theatrical distribution.
Jason Brenek has been named Chief Executive Officer of Fathom Entertainment, succeeding Ray Nutt following his previously announced retirement.
My focus will be on expanding and elevating the content we bring to the big screen.
The leadership change comes as Fathom continues evolving beyond its roots as an event cinema company into a broader specialty theatrical distributor handling an expanding lineup of feature films, anniversary re-releases, concerts, documentaries, and live events.
Adam Rymer, a member of Fathom Entertainment's Board of Directors and Chief Commercial Officer of Regal Global Entertainment, said Brenek's experience across theatrical distribution, event cinema, marketing, and technology made him the right choice to lead the company through its next stage of growth.
Rymer also thanked outgoing CEO Ray Nutt, whose leadership helped transform Fathom into one of theatrical exhibition's leading specialty distributors.
Fathom Entertainment is jointly owned by AMC Entertainment Holdings, Cinemark Holdings, and Regal Global Entertainment. Together, the three exhibition companies operate more than 19,000 screens throughout the United States.
Brenek said he has admired Fathom's work for years and believes the company has become an important part of today's theatrical landscape.
“There are very few companies in this industry that genuinely expand what the moviegoing experience can be,” Brenek said. “Fathom created the category of event cinema, and I have admired what this team has built for well over a decade.”
He said his immediate priorities include expanding the company's content offerings, strengthening relationships with exhibitors and content partners, and continuing to grow Fathom's presence as audiences seek unique theatrical experiences.
Brenek brings more than two decades of executive leadership experience to the role. Most recently, he founded and led MetaMedia, whose cloud-based platform for delivering movies, live events, and premium content to theaters expanded to more than 600 cinemas before the company was acquired by Qube Cinema in 2025.
Earlier in his career, Brenek held executive positions at IMAX Corporation before spending more than a decade with The Walt Disney Company, where he helped guide the industry's transition from film to digital cinema while overseeing worldwide digital cinema strategy and event programming.
During his time at Disney, Brenek also helped develop theatrical presentations for live ESPN, NBA, and NCAA sporting events and later oversaw Disney's international in-home entertainment business across more than 70 countries.
In 2025, Brenek received the International 3D & Advanced Imaging Society's inaugural Founders Award, recognizing his longtime contributions to theatrical exhibition and cinema technology.
Earlier this year at CinemaCon 2026, outgoing CEO Ray Nutt spoke with FlickDirect about Fathom Entertainment's continued growth and the evolving theatrical marketplace. Watch FlickDirect's final interview with Nutt below.
