The Popcorn Frights Film Festival was founded in 2015 by Miami locals Igor Shteyrenberg and Marc Ferman. Over the years, it has evolved into the premier international genre film festival in the Southeast United States, attracting horror enthusiasts and filmmakers alike.
Popcorn Frights has carved out a distinctive niche among genre film festivals with its unique programming voice, which has led to the discovery of numerous talented filmmakers and award-winning films. The festival's growth has been remarkable, with attendance and media impressions skyrocketing. From its humble beginnings with 400 attendees in 2015, the festival welcomed over 8,000 attendees in 2021. It has also been instrumental in introducing a diverse group of filmmakers, including well-known stars and directors like Graham Skipper, Joe Lynch, Neil Marshall, and many others. Major domestic US theatrical distributors, such as 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., and A24, have participated in the festival, further establishing its significance in the industry.
