"Wizards of Waverly Place" enthusiasts can celebrate as the magical sibling duo of Alex and Justin Russo is set to make a triumphant return to television in the upcoming pilot of the show's sequel, titled "Wizards."
Selena Gomez and David Henrie, who originally portrayed Alex and Justin when the series debuted in 2007, will take on the role of executive producers for the pilot, as confirmed by Disney Branded Television to CBS News.
In this exciting continuation, Gomez is slated to make a guest appearance in the pilot, while Henrie will have a regular role reprising his character, Justin. Joining them are new additions to Waverly Place, including Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos.
The enchanting sequel delves into Justin's journey as he leaves behind his magical powers and job at WizTech to embrace a normal life with his family. However, his routine takes an unexpected turn when a potent young wizard seeks his guidance, leading Justin to confront his past for the sake of the Wizard World's future, as outlined in the press release.
Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, the creative minds behind the "That's So Raven" reboot, are the writers of the pilot episode.
Expressing her enthusiasm on Instagram, Gomez shared a nostalgic photo from the set of "Wizards of Waverly Place" with Henrie, captioning it, "We're back." She also expressed her excitement with a screenshot of Deadline's report and a picture of what seems to be the "Wizards" pilot script, stating, "Home again."
Disney Channel and Henrie teased the news on Instagram by sharing the front cover of the pilot script alongside a wand, with Henrie proclaiming in the caption, "The Russos are excited to become a part of your family, but we've grown. 2024, the year magic comes back."
