Fans of Netflix's hit sleuthing series can rejoice - Enola Holmes 3 has officially kicked off production in the United Kingdom. The third installment in the beloved franchise will see the return of Millie Bobby Brown as the sharp-witted teen detective, along with co-stars Louis Partridge, Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, Himesh Patel, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster.
Plot details are still being revealed, but the film's synopsis teases an adventure that pushes Enola further than ever before. The story will transport viewers to Malta, where Enola must navigate the most intricate and dangerous case of her budding career. Described as a mission where "personal and professional dreams collide," the case will force the young sleuth to confront new challenges-and perhaps even new foes-as she balances her growing independence with the shadows of her famous family legacy.
Stepping behind the camera for the first time in the series is British director Philip Barantini, who takes over directing duties from Harry Bradbeer, the filmmaker responsible for the first two chapters of the saga. Barantini recently made waves with Adolescence, a gritty Netflix drama that shattered viewing records and cemented his place as a rising talent. He'll be collaborating once again with screenwriter Jack Thorne, who penned both Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2, and is returning to write the third installment. Thorne's scripts are based on The Enola Holmes Mysteries by Nancy Springer - a bestselling book series chronicling the exploits of Sherlock Holmes' younger sister as she strikes out on her own as a brilliant detective.
Behind the scenes, the film is being produced by Mary Parent, Ali Mendes, and Alex Garcia for Legendary Entertainment. Millie Bobby Brown is once again producing through her company PCMA Productions, alongside her sister Paige Brown. Executive producers include Jake Bongiovi and Isobel Richards for PCMA, Joshua Grode for Legendary, and Michael Dreyer.
The Enola Holmes franchise has been a major success story for Netflix, both critically and commercially. The first film, released in 2020, introduced audiences to the bold and brilliant Enola, quickly earning a devoted fanbase. Its 2022 sequel, Enola Holmes 2, debuted at number one on Netflix's global top 10 list and racked up over 68 million hours of viewing time across 93 countries in its first week alone. The film's runaway success also made headlines for Brown's payday - she was reportedly paid $10 million for reprising the lead role, setting a record for the highest salary ever paid to an actor under the age of 20 at the time.
