Heidi and Julia Face a Costly Shepherd's Pie Mistake as MasterChef's Tag Team Challenge Puts Two Eliminations on the Line
Another iconic challenge gets a twist for MasterChef: Global Gauntlet. With a double elimination looming, one team makes a fatal flaw in this Tag Team challenge. Could rushing cause two favorites to be eliminated?
After impressing Nick DiGiovanni with dishes that could go viral with both an impressive visual and a delicious flavor, the remaining cooks face a difficult task. The Tag Team challenge requires that chefs work together. Not only do the two cooks need to complement each other, but their communication is also vital.
For this Tag Team challenge, the cooks must recreate dishes that are inspired by the judges' most cherished memories. This concept can be more difficult than following Gordon Ramsay step by step. No one wants to be the cook who ruins one of the judges' favorite foods. This challenge requires an understanding of both flavor and execution.
FOX provided FlickDirect with an exclusive clip from the MasterChef: Global Gauntlet "Tag Team" episode. While both Julia and Heidi have impressed the judges, one mistake could prove to be very costly.
Even though every minute counts, there was plenty of time to slow down, accomplish each step, and stay on target.
As seen in the clip, Heidi rushed and forgot a key component in the mashed potatoes for the Shepherd's Pie. Adding eggs after the fact is perilous. The mashed potatoes could become overwhipped, which creates an unpleasant texture. If they had an option, it would be better to start over. Unfortunately, that choice seems impossible.
Additionally, trying to scrape the potatoes off the Shepherd's Pie is precarious. It is almost impossible to keep mixed ingredients out of the bowl. The mistakes keep piling up for this team.
Lastly, there is no way for the team to start over. Shepherd's Pie is a time-consuming dish. It needed to be the first dish started. As the clock ticks down, they have limited choices to fix this costly error.
The bigger issue is that Heidi's mistake could have been avoided. Gordon Ramsay specifically questions her, "Why are you rushing?" Even though every minute counts, there was plenty of time to slow down, accomplish each step, and stay on target. But no one can go back in time and correct it.
Heidi is a good cook. She has helped her teammates with advice and kept people calm in stressful times. Unfortunately, she did not heed her own advice in this challenge.
