Matthew McConaughey returns to the big screen in THE RIVALS OF AMZIAH KING, the new crime thriller from writer-director Andrew Patterson. To celebrate the film's theatrical release, FlickDirect is giving readers across the United States the chance to win Fandango promotional codes to see the movie at a participating local theater.
Set deep in rural Oklahoma, the film follows Amziah King (McConaughey), a charismatic beekeeper and musician who leads a bluegrass-playing group of misfits while running the area's premier honey operation. When his estranged foster daughter Kateri (Angelina LookingGlass) unexpectedly returns, Amziah sees an opportunity to rebuild their relationship and bring her into the family business.
But the honey business is far from peaceful. As rivalries intensify and everything Amziah has built comes under threat, the story evolves into a crime thriller about family, community, loyalty, and survival.
Written and directed by Andrew Patterson, the filmmaker behind The Vast of Night, THE RIVALS OF AMZIAH KING stars Matthew McConaughey, Angelina LookingGlass, Cole Sprouse, Scott Shepherd, Rob Morgan, Tony Revolori, Jake Horowitz, and Kurt Russell.
The film made its world premiere at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival and is being released theatrically in the United States by Black Bear.
